Kelowna Water Polo Club's Stephanie Ball Wins Gold at the 2024 US Masters Nationals

The Calgary Splash women's water polo team celebrated a stunning victory in the women's 50+ division at the 2024 US Masters Nationals, held from June 7-9 at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, California. Among the team members was Kelowna Water Polo Club’s own Stephanie Ball.

Stephanie Ball, a founding member of the Kelowna Water Polo Club, trains with the club three times a week. Despite moving to Kelowna five years ago, Stephanie has maintained strong ties with her Calgary Splash family. The team's dedication and skill were on full display as they triumphed in a very competitive masters tournament.

Reflecting on the victory, Stephanie shared her gratitude: "I am so lucky to still be welcomed by my Calgary Splash family after all these years. Leaving them was one of the hardest things to do when moving to Kelowna. Thanks for all the California memories this weekend and the gold medal. Love you, ladies!"

The US Masters Nationals is a premier event in the North American water polo calendar, attracting top-tier players from across the continent. This year's tournament was no exception, with intense matches and high-level play across all age groups.

The event was meticulously organized, featuring efficient game schedules, top-notch facilities, and a welcoming atmosphere that combined competition with camaraderie. Participants enjoyed not only the intense matches but also the social events that fostered a strong sense of community among water polo enthusiasts.

In addition to the women’s 50+ victory by Calgary Splash, champions were crowned in numerous divisions. New York Athletic Club dominated the 19+ women's and 30+ women's categories, while Alumni Water Polo and SPA Vibes took home titles in the 19+ and 30+ men's divisions, respectively. The Olympic Club secured the men’s 40+ title, and Viper Pigeons Battle Axes won the women’s 40+ championship. Other winners included Darkside in the men’s 50+ and 55+ categories, Punahou in the women’s 60+, Seattle Kaos in the men’s 60+, Santa Barbara Silver Surfers in the men’s 65+, and Channel Islands in the men’s 70+.

Stephanie Ball’s achievement with Calgary Splash is a testament to her enduring passion for the sport and her unwavering commitment to excellence. Her journey from Kelowna to California and back, with a gold medal in tow, is an inspiration to our local aspiring water polo athletes.
