About Us

Why Water Polo?

Kelowna has excellent aquatic programs, including summer swim clubs and winter swim training options. Water polo complements these by offering a dynamic team environment that builds confidence, fitness, and decision-making in the water.

  • Team-first sport: players communicate, support each other, and share every success.
  • Whole-body fitness: endurance, strength, coordination, and agility develop together.
  • Great for swimmers: a fun way to stay pool-based outside the summer season.
  • Not just about speed: tactics and teamwork are just as important.

How to Register

Registration depends on age, experience, and program availability. To find the best fit — including Splashball, youth, senior, and adult programs — please review our full practice schedule and program information.

What Should I Wear for Water Polo?

The most important thing when getting started with water polo is feeling comfortable and confident in the water. If you’re new to the sport, especially in our Splashball or recreational beginner programs, there’s no need for specialised gear right away.

Beginners & Splashball Players

New players are welcome to wear whatever allows them to move comfortably and safely in the pool. This might include:

  • Comfortable swimwear that stays secure while swimming
  • One-piece swimsuits, trunks, or jammers
  • Swim shirts or rash guards if that helps with confidence in the water

As long as athletes can swim, move freely, and participate safely, they’re dressed just fine for beginner sessions.

Competitive Youth, Senior, and Adult Players

As players move into more competitive training and games, most athletes choose fitted racing swimwear. This reduces drag, supports fast movement, and avoids giving opponents something to grab during play.

  • Fitted one-piece racing suits for many players
  • Briefs or jammers for those who prefer them
  • Water polo caps are provided or assigned for games and scrimmages

Loose board shorts and casual swimwear are generally avoided at this level, as they create drag and can interfere with gameplay.

If you’re ever unsure what’s best for your program or stage of development, our coaches are happy to help — there’s no expectation to “look competitive” on day one.
